Our Story

Finding Inspiration at Every Turn

Big Data in a Box (BDiB) was created with a simple goal: to make organic farming certification easier so farmers can focus on what they love most—growing food. The idea started after an NPR interview with an organic farmer, which inspired both the technology and the company. In 2018, BDiB launched as part of an I-Corps program at the ISU Pappajohn Entrepreneurship Center. Since then, it has received two grants from USDA NIFA and has grown into a fully formed C-corporation comprising of agriculture and regulatory experts, business experts, technology leaders, and several key participants and partners, including farmers. See our team.

BDiB's technology connects farmers with their supply chains and regulatory partners, helping them collect and access key information to make smarter decisions. Using a unique, patent-pending technology, the platform gathers farm data from the field through small, smart devices and turns it into a real-time digital twin of the farm. This live digital copy helps farmers and their partners plan, carry out, and review farm operations—creating a two-way connection between the farmer and their entire farming ecosystem.
